Questions to Ask a Real Estate Mentor
Whether you’re looking for a real estate mentor or you’re already working with one, there are always things you can learn and work on in order to improve the student-teacher relationship. After all, you’re paying for mentorship so you might as well get the best out of it, right? It’s always good to come prepared to each mentorship session or group class, as this will help you ask the right questions and get the answers you need. With that said, here are a few tips on how to approach your sessions with a mentor.
Build a Professional Relationship
First and foremost, always strive to build a professional relationship with the mentor you choose to guide you through your real estate journey. While being friendly can help create a more relaxed atmosphere, you never want to overdo it. At the end of the day, you want to build a professional relationship around something as serious as real estate coaching. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have the freedom to ask all the questions you need to ask.
Coming prepared to each meeting will significantly improve your mentorship experience and help you get the best out of the money you’ve invested. Not only will it show your mentor that you’re taking this seriously but it will also motivate you to work harder and inspire you to push your limits in real estate. Coming prepared means doing all the work you’ve been given during your previous session, as well as bringing your own questions to address at the meeting. So, what questions should you ask your real estate mentor?
There is never a right or wrong answer here. Everyone is going to have at least a few questions to ask, no doubt about it. However, if you’re all out of curious inquiries, here are a few ideas to help you spark up the next session. If you’re looking to get to know your mentor on a more personal level or you’re finding inspiration in their own work and success, don’t hesitate to ask questions around their own habits and routine. Naturally, you will get to know your mentor and understand what questions they’re comfortable with and which ones they’d like to avoid. Hence, always act accordingly.
You can always ask your mentor how they spend their time and what their daily work routine is like? Are there any specific habits that have helped them achieve their goals? Is there anything they would recommend you to start doing on a daily basis to improve your productivity and quality of life in general? How about their greatest weaknesses or their greatest motivators? All of these are great questions that can provide true value to real estate students.
The benefit of having a mentor is having access to their expertise and experiences. For instance, if you feel stuck in a certain situation, you can always ask your mentor what they would do if they were in your shoes? Feel free to ask them how they would navigate a certain situation or how they would handle an issue that you’re currently dealing with. That way, you can avoid trial and error and simply follow the path someone’s already paved for you. After all, that is the point of mentorship. If you’re just getting to know your mentor and you’re looking to get the most out of their expertise, keep in mind some of the following questions: How long have you been investing in real estate? What investment strategy do you think would work best for my situation? What are your long-term goals in real estate? What do you think is the best REI practice for beginners? Do you recommend investing in properties out-of-state? Do you recommend any resources that would be helpful to a newbie investor?
